Lindsey Vonn said she was going to try to compete in the Winter Olympics after rupturing her left ACL one week ago.
So far, so good.
The American ski star completed the first training run for the women's downhill without any apparent issues on Friday at Milano Cortina 2026. The women's downhill race is scheduled for Sunday.
The 41-year-old Vonn is wearing a large brace on her left knee.
Vonn finished 11th, 1.39 seconds back of teammate and training leader Jacqueline Wiles, but training runs are much like spring training in baseball — they can have next to no meaning when it comes to projecting official results.
Vonn returned to racing last year after right knee replacement surgery, ending a nearly-six-year absence.
A crash last week at a women's downhill in Switzerland seemed to put her Olympics in jeopardy, but Vonn has battled back to give it a go at Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Vonn posted video and pictures of her lifting weights earlier this week.
Vonn has three Olympic medals, including gold in the downhill in Vancouver in 2010.
Valerie Grenier was the top Canadian in Friday's training, finishing 14th.
